Chichester Literature Quiz

Pupils meet famous authors and win picture round!

Three teams of pupils from Year 7 and 8 attended the Chichester Literature Quiz on 10 March with librarian Miss Barkworth.

They had a fantastic day at the competition, held at Chichester College, where they got to meet four famous children’s authors:  Stewart Foster, Sita Brahmachari, Ali Sparkes and Andy Mulligan. Our teams did brilliantly, with one team winning the picture competition and scoring the same as the author’s team!  All the pupils had a chance to get books signed by the authors and hear them speak about their writing.

“The Chichester Literature Quiz was a great and very enjoyable experience with an added bonus of meeting some amazing authors and people. I really enjoyed learning about some of the very inspirational life stories. They were all very interesting and I loved hearing about their lives.”

Harvey, Year 8

“The Chichester Literature quiz was an eye-opening experience. We first took part in visual and verbal rounds of questions on things such as: the author’s lives, their books and general knowledge. Afterwards, we did some meet and greet signings and then later on got to ask questions about the masterminds behind the main novels of the quiz. It was intriguing to learn more about the authors in person, rather than from a web page. It was incredible to listen to how the authors connect themselves to their novels. All in all, it was a lovely atmosphere and a great way to find and connect with new people. And of course, dominate our competition.”

Jack, Year 8

“My favourite part of the Chichester Literature Quiz is the fact we were able to be with the authors of the fabulous books (Checkmates, Dog, Death by Detention and the Zebra Crossing Soul Song) and were able to buy some of their other books that are equally fantastic.”

Nizar, Year 7

The Chichester Literature Quiz was a lot of fun! We took part in many quizzes and tried as hard as possible to answer all the questions. I wish we could go again!

Molly, Year 8

The Chichester Literature Quiz this year was a great experience as it taught us about books and the challenges that the authors had to face to achieve their goal of a finished book.
