Leading Lights sailing project, May 2019

Ormiston Trust has partnered with the Association of Sail Training Organisations, The Honourable Company of Master Mariners and Trinity House, to create the Leading Lights project, giving students from Ormiston academies the opportunity to participate in an exciting sailing adventure with inspirational business leaders.

Congratulations to Ellenor Wilson, Bronwin Stevens, Amy Hunt, Ellie Shearer and Amelia Glass who have been selected from Six Villages to participate in the May 2019 voyage as part of this fantastic project, with Lilly-mae Beaney and Caitlin Main taking the two reserve places.

'Leading Lights'  aims to enable the students to recognise that they can achieve more, exceed their own expectations and push themselves out of their comfort zone.

The students will be actively involved in every aspect of sailing the boat, from hoisting and lowering sails, steering, navigation, anchoring, cooking and keeping watch.

The business mentors spend time chatting to and coaching the students, this will involve talking to them about aspirations and careers; providing advice, opening up networks and helping to build the students’ confidence.

You can watch a video about the project below, or visit the Leading Lights website for more information.

Our Communities

On entering the Academy, students become a member of one of three Communities. Belonging to a Community creates a cohesive and friendly environment that helps students feel a sense of belonging
